Leadership in housing advocacy awards

Awardees will be selected based on the description and/or additional evidence provided in the nomination package that illustrates how they are advocating for housing and housing policy.

Any individual or group that has demonstrated exceptional efforts that align with the mission of the HBA of Michigan within the last year in Michigan. 

They must not fall into any of the classifications of ineligibility listed in the following sections.

Any members not in good standing with local, state, or national HBA/NAHB affiliations.

All nominees, finalists, and award recipients must adhere to the Morality Clause as part of their eligibility for any HBAM award.

Nominations are accepted from HBAM members and state/local staff.

The Selection Committee will make its recommendation based on the evaluation of the nomination packages received. Each nomination package must include a completed application form, both the Nominee’s and Nominator’s contact information, credentials, and designations.  Up to three additional letters of recommendation that speak to and support the nomination criteria may be submitted by any HBAM member.

The Home Builders Association of Michigan (HBAM) is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct within the housing industry. All nominees, finalists, and award recipients must adhere to these principles as part of their eligibility for any HBAM award.

1. Ethical Conduct:

   Nominees must demonstrate a consistent commitment to ethical behavior, both personally and professionally. Any conduct that compromises the integrity of the nominee or reflects negatively on HBAM, the housing industry, or the community will result in immediate disqualification from consideration.

2. Legal Compliance:

   All award nominees must comply with local, state, and federal laws, as well as industry regulations. Any involvement in criminal activities, fraud, or violations of industry standards will render the nominee ineligible for an award.

3. Professional Standards:

   Nominees must uphold the values of professionalism and respect in all business dealings. This includes fair treatment of employees, clients, partners, and communities. Any nominee found to have engaged in discriminatory practices, harassment, or unethical business practices will be disqualified.

4. Public Image:

   As representatives of HBAM and the home-building industry, nominees must maintain a positive public image. Any behavior that damages the reputation of the nominee or the Association, including but not limited to public scandals, misconduct, or inappropriate actions, will lead to disqualification.

5. Ongoing Integrity:

   HBAM reserves the right to revoke any award if, after recognition, the recipient engages in conduct that violates this morality clause. Awards are based not only on past achievements but also on an ongoing commitment to ethical and responsible leadership.

By submitting a nomination or accepting an award, nominees agree to abide by this morality clause and understand that failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification or revocation of recognition.
